Crop Insurance

Compensation

The amount of compensation will be determined by the coverage option and deductible you selected when you enrolled.

For individual coverage

When a natural phenomenon affects one of your crops insured under crop insurance, you must notify us immediately. If not, you could lose your right to any compensation.

See the Notification of Damage Checklist (French link here)

For collective coverage

Generally, when a natural phenomenon affects any of your productions insured under crop insurance, it is not necessary to send a notice of damage to receive compensation.

However, if the damage is caused by a spot loss risk (individual) cause, you must submit a notice of damage to your advisor. Covered spot loss risks include

  • Wildlife against which there is no adequate means of protection, with the exception of waterfowl.
  • Flooding caused by a natural element and constituting an exceptional phenomenon.
  • Hail.
  • Freezing of grain corn and corn silage that occurs after the cut-off dates (refer to coverage summaries).
  • Uncontrollable insects and diseases.
  • Snow when seeding takes place before the cut-off dates for all insured crops, except for hay.
  • Hurricanes or tornadoes.

How do you give a notice of damage?

A notice of damage can be given by phone or during a visit from your advisor. It must include the following:

  • Crop affected;
  • Cause and extent of damage;
  • Field numbers and area affected;
  • Damage date and expected harvest date.

For more details on the compensation associated with your production, consult the coverage summary in question.
