This announcement reaffirms the government's trust in the agency's key strategic role in the development of Québec agriculture.

The government orientations are designed to improve the performance of farming operations, increase the support offered to emerging sectors and promote agricultural diversification. The orientations include:

  • An increase in the Québec government's contribution to La Financière agricole going from $305 to $630 million a year for the next five years;
  • The government's take-over of the La Financière agricole's accumulated deficit estimated at over $1 billion as of March 31, 2010;
  • Maintenance of the Farm Income Stabilization Insurance (ASRA) program, with  remedial measures;
  • Addition of Agri-Québec program similar to a savings account.
