As part of its insurance operations, La Financière agricole is especially interested in recording insured areas and crops. The digitized contours of farm plots and their areas come from the Agricultural Land Data Base. Crops are reported every year by insured farm producers.

La Financière agricole du Québec produces information derived from these data, thus ensuring the protection of its clients' personal information. The initial polygons have been generalized and grouped together according to the crop reported by the insured party. Thus two corn fields that are adjacent or separated by less than 20 m (separated by a ditch, road or street) have been merged. The major crops used for these groupings are as follows: hay, corn, wheat, barley, oats, soybeans, canola, other cereals, market garden produce, small fruits or no crop information. The information covers approximately 90% of Québec's cultivated land and has been available from 2003 to 2007.
