In the framework of its insurance operations, La Financière agricole gathers information on cultivated areas and insured crops. The digitized contours of parcels and their areas come from the Agricultural Land Data Base, while crops are reported every year by insured farm producers.
La Financière agricole du Québec produces specific information derived from the data, while assuring the protection of its clients' personal information, and makes it available in the Insured Crop Data Base (BCDA). The crop declarations are grouped together into the following main categories: hay, corn, wheat, barley, oats, soybeans, canola, other cereals, market garden crops, small fruits or no crop information. The information covers roughly 90% of Québec's farmland and is now available for 2008 to 2010.
