This fund is made up of the contributions from participants and from La Financière agricole to the Farm Income Stabilization Insurance Program. The joint contributions must make it possible for participants to be paid the compensation to which they are entitled over the long term.
At the end of the 2010-2011 fiscal period, the cumulated deficit of the Farm Income Stabilization Insurance Fund totalled $639.9 million, which was $118.8 million less than at the end of the previous fiscal period. A major part of the deficit, some $491.1 million, was due to difficulties in the hog sector and $82.6 million in the cereal sector. For this last one, the compensations were superior of $81.6 million to the contributions.
