La Financière agricole has a direct stake in sustainable development, as its mission clearly states:

The mission of La Financière agricole du Québec is to support and encourage the development of the agricultural and agri-food sector within a perspective of sustainable development. It aims to stimulate investments and protect income, thereby promoting the success and longevity of Québec's farm businesses, in compliance with environmental standards.

The organization takes into account the three inextricable elements of sustainable development on a daily basis:

• social
• environmental
• economic

Since 2004, La Financière agricole has formally adopted a sustainable development approach to help farm businesses gradually adapt to new environmental standards.

Under this approach, the 2008-2013 Sustainable Development Action Plan (French) sets out actions aimed at meeting the requirements of the Sustainable Development Act that La Financière agricole du Québec will integrate into every area of intervention.
