Today, the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) launched the 2016 Established Aspiring Farmers Census (Recensement de la relève agricole établie 2016). This major operation will allow MAPAQ to back its effort to support aspiring farmers on an information source that is as up-to-date as possible and in tune with young people in agriculture.
Through this census, MAPAQ will update a databank on established aspiring farmers that it created in 2006 and improved in 2011. The first two surveys led to the publication of portraits of Québec’s aspiring farmers that were widely used by industry actors and by aspiring farmers themselves, in particular to better identify business opportunities in a region or a specific production sector.
The Established Aspiring Farmers Census addresses all Québec farmers under 40 years of age who own shares in a farming operation. Over the coming days, targeted individuals will be asked to complete an on-line questionnaire at www.mapaq.gouv.qc.ca/recensementreleve. Before that, a participation letter containing an access code and password will be sent to them by mail.
If anyone who meets the requisite conditions has not received an invitation by April 7, 2016 to complete the questionnaire for the on-line Census, please contact MAPAQ, either by e-mail at email@example.com or by phone at 1 888 272-6272, ext. 3289, or 418 380-2100, ext. 3289.
Your participation in the Established Aspiring Farmers Census is essential for the success of this operation. Please participate… because you count!
