Description

This program aims to support dairy farmers in preventing and controlling the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on their farms.

HPAI is a disease that traditionally affects birds. Its detection in dairy cattle represents a new phenomenon requiring heightened vigilance and special prevention and control measures.

This program has two complementary tiers.

Tier 1 – Screening and prevention

This tier provides dairy farmers with:

• support to cover veterinary costs related to HPAI screening 
• financial assistance to implement temporary heightened biosecurity measures 

Tier 2 – Control

This tier provides dairy farmers with:

• support to cover the costs of treating sick animals 
• financial assistance to implement the biosecurity measures imposed by Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) 
• compensation to mitigate the impacts of quarantines 

This program is part of a concerted effort by MAPAQ and Les Producteurs de lait du Québec (PLQ) to protect the health of Québec’s dairy herds.

This program runs until March 31, 2028, subject to available funding.
